Crying Letters

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

When the last battle ended,

Yet nothing's any better.

When the whispers get loud,

And I can’t drown them out,

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

When the last lie was told,

Love bled out…

When the last flame I tried to light,

Was smothered with doubt,

When the house that we built

couldn’t withstand the weather,

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

When’s the last I slept beside you?

When’s the last time I tried to look

and actually found you?

When’s the last time someone told you

“Man you gotta do better.’’?

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

When’s the last time you looked at our babies?

Do you feel a way when you know you hate the woman that made them?

If your Mama was here,

I know she’d get you together,

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

When’s the last time you spoke to a man?

One that doesn’t tear his woman down just because he can.

I know what you saw growing up wasn’t any better,

When then last tear falls,

I cry letters.

Where’d you go when you left me in Paris?

Left me standing in the streets of Rome,

Down right embarrassed.

Or in Florence,

When I all I had were a few euros and a sweater,

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

You can say what you want to the people.

Keep the friends that hide your dirt,

Because you’re really gonna need em.

Its a shame that they won’t part their mouths to tell you any better

When the last tear falls,

I cry letters.

One day, all you’ll have are thoughts of what you left behind

And you'll sit alone in silence

Watching memories in your mind

You’ll be crying to all who'll listen how you should’ve done better,

But all you'll have are the tears––

and letters....
